Training and preparation for big hiking expedition - Mount / Gunung Tambuyukon part 7

Never underestimate any mountain, even a low one.. even bukit tabor has it own challenge.. even more for Mount Tambuyukon or known as Gunung Tambuyukon, a third highest mountain in Malaysia. Furthermore this expedition would cost me more than RM600++, i would not want to risk the chance to conquer Mount Tambuyukon succesfully and not suffering in the process heh heh.. it's not just money that matter but to find time, low cost ticket, syncronise  planning with schedule of other group member, family commitment and all other commitments.. i would want to risk this opportunity to scale Mount Tambuyukon. Then training is essential. With only one month left  before the real expedition.. just after fasting month and all still in Hari Raya mood and with so many open house invitation, finding suitable date to gather all members for a training is tough. Nevertheless, by hook or by crook i have toorganize at least two trip. Even this is only a day trip it's better than nothing, it's just matter of how to make the training suitable in conditioning for the real trip. Mount Nuang is chosen for it close location with Klang Valley while offer challenging  trail for climber. Several aspects to consider;

1. It simulate as real situation as possible
2. It involve weight training.. trail running never match hiking with over 10kg on your back
3. Involve all expedition member - to develop team siprit
4. Give enough time for muscle to recover before real expedition. at least one week before, so you can hike with fresh leg.

Type of Golok Knife

Golok are type of weapon & ingineous tool use and crafted by people of east coast of Malaysia Peninsular. Shown here are various type of Golok from shortest length of 11 inches to 17 inches long . The blade could be slim but sharp and pointy for slaughtering and delicate use or wide, heavy and less poitny for heavy duty use as the slim point end could easily break in heavy use. Golok has distinct shape of little curvy at it sweetest spot " heavier section of it blade". Each shape and type would serve different purpose and for its special use. The shortest golok normally use to skinning animal, light and curvy for slaughtering animal, while the longest and heavier could be use for rough work and suitable utility tool for camping and jungle trekking.

 golok with 3 different length

Various type of Golok, the first, third and the fifth from above are my choice for outdoor use for its shape, wider and heavier sweet point and at suitable lenght. Of the three, the fifth golok is the best one and my choice.

Golok with its "sarung" or sheath
